A Blog Hop with a Difference…

Recently the lovely Tarrah McLean to take part in a blog hop with a difference. I was so honoured to be asked, I am a huge fan of Tarrah’s work so of course I said yes straight away.

Getting to Know Me:

1. What am I working on right now?
Well at the moment I haven’t been spending a lot of time in the studio which is kind of frustrating because I love creating but as I am currently working on the changeover of Polly Scrap to Scrappy Canary Kits I have been flat out. I do have some DT projects on my desk at the moment but you will have to wait to see them.

2. How long does it take to complete a project?
This really varies for me, more often than not I complete a project in one sitting and depending of what I am using it can take anywhere for 40mins to an hour and a half. Sometimes if I am struggling with a layout and will leave it overnight to look at the next morning with fresh eyes and see what I can do/change that I didn’t see the day before.3. What are my favourite things to create with at the moment?
This is a hard one because I like to play with all kinds of things and techniques. I guess one thing that is constant on my layouts at the moment are ink splatters, enamel dots and lots of layers.

4.  How does my creative process work?
I generally start with the photo I want to use and work from there. After that I choose my papers, I am a pretty paper addict so I have a LOT to choose from. Lately I find I am working with a single collection of papers which is something I used to struggle with. Then it is just embellish, embellish, embellish. I will move things around, change my mind and take bits off until it works for me.

5. How do I become inspired and stay inspired?
I absolutely love sketches and often use one as inspiration but I tend to change things about and by the end of the layout it doesn’t look anything like the original. I like to draw inspiration from all around so I  am always reading blogs, looking on Pinterest and online galleries. Another place I get inspiration is from YouTube, there are so many talented scrappers out there making videos of how they put layouts together and sometimes it is just a small thing they do on a page that gives me an idea.

6. What is my signature style?
I am not sure what to call my style, I guess if I had to narrow it down to one word it would be “eclectic”. I really like to try all kinds of things and styles.

So that is a little bit about me, so next week it is a chance to get to know three more really talented ladies.

Ruth Bonser
Ruth is a great friend of mine and we have been working together for over a year now on Life.Paper.Scrapbook. and Scrappy Canary (when it was Polly). As well as traditional scrapping she totally rocks Project Life and the way she documents the day to day in her life.

Carlie Hamilton
I first stumbled across Carlie on her fantastic YouTube channel where she shares process videos of how her layouts come together. Carlie has also just released her first class Pages That Pop on her blog Create Mess.

Lauren Matthews
Lauren is one of the most positive people I know and her embrace life attitude really shows through in her work, whether she is doing traditional or Project Life her pages are always fun to look at.

Make sure you head on over to these girls blogs next  Monday the 21st to learn some more about them and their creative lives.

Creative Scrappers Sketch #273: Look-a-like

Hi everyone, sorry I have been missing in action the last few weeks things have been crazy busy getting Scrappy Canary up and running. With all of that going on it was so great to get into the studio and get some scrapping done. So today I am sharing my reveal for Creative Scrappers Sketch 273
Creative Scrappers 273This one I changed around a little bit, I only had two photos to start with so where the 3rd would have gone I added an embellishment cluster.

Look A Like2I also flipped the centre part because I was using a speech bubble as my circle element and it only worked on the left hand side. For the triangles running down the page I decided to use a stencil and my Prima Chalk Edgers, although the inks are meant to be used for edges I find when you use them directly on the page with the stencil they make a nice rich mark and also you have more control than you do with a larger blending tool. The papers I used for this layout was Basic Grey’s Capture collection which I love because of how bright and colourful they are.

Look A Like3The story behind this layout is that someone sent me a picture of this lego kitty on Facebook and I thought it looked a lot like Harry so I had to do a page about it but Harry is not the most affable cat in the world and has a bit of a grumpy demeanor so I think he wouldn’t be too impressed being compared to a toy hence the Grumpy Cat style NO.

So now you have seen my layout head on over to the Creative Scrappers Blog to be inspired by the rest of the DT and to play along.  To Win a prize from Paper Camellia  all you need to do is create a layout for Sketches 272-273 and link it to the Creative Scrappers blog.

Have an awesome week!

Creative Scrappers Sketch #272

It’s time for another sketch over at Creative Scrappers and I have to tell you one was a real challenge for me.
Creative Scrappers 272
This time as well as a sketch Kristine also challenged us to do a layout with NO JOURNALLING! If you read my blog regularly you will no journalling is something I really struggle with, I really don’t know why. I don’t like my handwriting for starters but other than that there isn’t a reason for my fear of sharing stories. Anyway I gave it a go writing short lists of things that are happening right now.
#Right Now
I pretty much stuck to the sketch for this one with the only real change being I took the left side embellishments up above the journalling and took the right side ones all the way down the side because my printed journalling didn’t come out like I thought it would so I have a space to fill.
#Right Now2
I am trying to use up some of my older supplies at the moment so I used the Amy Tangerine Cut and Paste collection, I have a lot of it and I don’t know why I haven’t used more of it because it has lots of lovely pieces. Sometimes the latest and greatest overshadows some awesome pieces in your stash.
#Right Now4
So now you have seen my take head on over to Creative Scrappers to see the amazing layouts the rest of the DT have done with this challenge and to play along to win a great prize from  Paper Camellia.  All you need to do is create a layout for Sketches 272-273 and link up the the Creative Scrappers blog.

Have a fabulous day,

Um Wow Studio: This Happened

Yesterday was my last post for Um Wow Studio as a DT member. I have loved being part of a team with so many talented ladies and working with some wonderful products, I will definitely be sad to go but cannot wait to see what the new team makes to inspire us with.
For this project I decided to  get messy with some mixed media. Starting with a plain piece of aqua cardstock I first added a thin layer of gesso and then used two 12×12 stencils (both heidi swap) a sunburst which I misted with Citron Color Shine and a hexagon with I used a blue Mister Huey mist. After that I took a small Heidi Swapp stencil and used Tim Holtz distress ink to make bold triangles. I also added some random stamping with a Glitz roller stamp. To finish the background off I took my gelatos and added colour around the edge.

Once my background was done I used the Hexagon Background chip and layered my papers and photos on top. When I placed the chipboard I didn’t think about the balance of the page so I then had a gap on the right hand side. To fill in that space I used a chevron stamp from Avery Elle. I still had some of Amy Tan’s Yes Please! embellishments and I thought they worked really well with the background colours. I used the Arrow Title Mash chip for my title, this is one of my favourite sets I use all the time. To finish off I used a flair from the Oh Places You’ll Go set. Of course I had to add some enamel dots and washi to finish off. Below is a video of how the background came together:

I don’t do a lot of mixed media but I am super happy with how this came out. Thanks for dropping by,

30 Something

Hello there, today I am sharing a layout I made using some of the beautiful Pink Paislee Hello Sunshine collection. I took this selfie of myself on my birthday while I was in Bali, taken by the poolside with a cocktail to celebrate.
30 Something
I love the bright happy colours of this collection so much, so I thought to make them pop I would just use them on a plain piece of cardstock. I took a Heidi Swapp stencil and some Prima chalk edger to the background and then just layered my papers on.
30 Something3
I used the ephemera pack for  embellishments and it is absolutely chockers full of pieces (I think 90 pieces from memory) and to stick the transparent pieces down I just used some Diamond Glaze.
30 Something2
I am so happy with the finished product. As for my actual age? Well I lady never tells!

Shimelle: Sketch To Scrapbook Page – Shop Houses

Last friday I mentioned I had something exciting coming up this weekend and now I can share it with you.
I was recently asked by the wonderful Shimelle to work with one of her sketches for the weekend crop she is holding. I am so excited to take part in this, when I first started scrapbooking I took her Pretty Paper class and it taught me so much about the composition of a page and what works with what, I just loved it. So to be asked to take part in this by the girl who taught me everything I know was such an honor.ShopHouses4
The cyber crop was held over the weekend however you have until the end of the week to play along, there are lots of sketchs and other challenge. Head over to Shimelle’s blog to see the sketch and the complete page and to play along.
Have a beautiful day,

The current challenge at Paper Issues is Food for Thought so I thought I would share this page I made after a recent cafe breakfast. I love eating breakfast out, where I live now there isn’t really anywhere to go so I always enjoy it when I get a chance. Last time I stayed in Melbourne I went to this awesome little cafe called “Kinfolk” where I had such a great meal – sourdough toast with avocado, pea, mint and feta mash AND orange juice in a mason jar – so cute!

For this layout I used the April Polly Scrap Kit which had some Kelly Purkey Mon Ami and also some SC.
I used one of the stickers from the sticker sheet that said you and me which is something I probably wouldn’t use and covered it with some washi and added “rise” and “shine”. I also took some other pieces from the sticker sheet and used foam dots to give dimension. The photos on the dark paper got a little lost so I ended up using my white Uni-Ball pen to add some faux stitching.

I also added some journaling (I know, so unlike me!) and added some stamping to a little cork speech bubble that came this the kit.

I have something very exciting coming up this weekend, another scrap dream come true and I can’t wait to share with you.
Have a beautiful day,
